Hammon
GAME OF THE NIGHT
The Liberty and the Silver Stars met Saturday in San Antonio, and the matchup presented an interesting early season quagmire: New York had yet to win away from home, and San Antonio was still searching for its first home victory. Something had to give. For the first three-plus quarters it appeared the Liberty were in for an easy one, as Becky Hammon's hot hand helped New York build a 13-point edge. But the Silver Stars rallied back in the fourth, cutting the lead to just two points in the final seconds of the frame. The Liberty managed to fend off the charge, though, and Erin Thorn's free throws with 6.4 seconds left sealed the 71-67 win. Hammon scored 23, shooting 5-of-10 from deep. New York improved to 1-5 on the road, while San Antonio dropped to 0-4 on the River Walk.

ALSO MAKING HEADLINES ...
Turns Out Chicken Little was Right: The Sky appear to be falling. After winning the franchise's first game on opening night, Chicago has since dropped eight straight. Its latest setback came Saturday night in Sacramento, an 80-70 loss at the hands of the defending champion Monarchs.

Thorn

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
"It feels great to have a win. The Silver Stars fought back, but I stepped up to the line with confidence. Feels good to do anything to help your team win."

-- Liberty guard Erin Thorn, who scored only six points in Saturday's win but calmly sank the game-icing free throws.

Dupree
ROOKIE WATCH
Candice Dupree supplied one of the few bright spots for the Sky in their 10-point loss Saturday in Sacramento. The No. 6 pick from Temple scored 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting and pulled down five rebounds. It wasn't enough, though, as Chicago's losing streak stretched to eight games.

Smith
SHINING OFF THE BENCH
Candice Dupree wasn't the only hot rookie on the ARCO Arena floor Saturday. Kim Smith came off the Monarch's bench and pumped in 10 points in limited minutes. She hit four of her five shots, as well, including 2-of-3 from the arc.
