Hammon
GAME OF THE NIGHT
In a battle of the two coasts, it was the East that got the better of the West as New York defeated Los Angeles in an 89-79 overtime victory on Saturday. In their 2006 debut at Madison Square Garden, the Liberty honored Teresa Weatherspoon, Rebecca Lobo, Sue Wicks and Kym Hampton -- Liberty stars from the WNBA's inaugural season in 1997 -- to a standing ovation from the crowd of 14,070. Energized by the ceremony, New York's Cathrine Kraayeveld made a tying 3-pointer with 4.6 seconds left in regulation to force OT and Shameka Christon scored her team's first five points in the extra period to power the Liberty to victory. Becky Hammon led the way with 24 points and five assists, while Sherill Baker added 17 points for New York, which notched its first victory of the season. Los Angeles' Lisa Leslie shot 11-of-19 from the floor to finish with 26 points, while also grabbing 15 rebounds. Temeka Johnson collected 17 points, six assists and five rebounds for the Sparks, who outrebounded New York by 22, but committed seven more turnovers.

ALSO MAKING HEADLINES ...
Homegirls: The Washington Mystics have won all three of their home games this season. Now that's pretty admirable, but what's impressive is that they have won those three contests by an average of 24.7 points. The Mystics rocked the Shock in a 92-68 victory on Saturday. DeLisha Milton-Jones led five Washington players in double figures with 21 points on 8-for-13 shooting, while Alana Beard posted 18 points and seven rebounds.

Baker
ROOKIE WATCH
Sherill Baker, the "Big-Shot Maker," poured in 17 points on Saturday in the Liberty's 89-79 home victory over the Sparks. Baker nabbed two steals, was 2-of-4 from downtown, and shot 3-for-3 from the line; making her a perfect 7-of-7 from the stripe this season. The 12th overall selection out of Georgia is currently seventh in the WNBA in field goal percentage, and on her way to becoming one of the impact players of this season's rookie class.

McWilliams-Franklin
FILLING THE BOX SCORE
Taj McWilliams-Franklin was a playmaking dynamo on Saturday, collecting 12 points, a career-high 15 rebounds, two blocks and two steals in the Sun's 89-71 home win over Charlotte. McWilliams-Franklin is currently third in WNBA in rebounds for Connecticut, which as of Saturday sits alone atop the Eastern Conference.
