Smith
GAME OF THE NIGHT
The last two teams to represent the East in the WNBA Finals hooked up on Saturday and they produced the kind of results you would expect from the league's best. Connecticut came all the way back from an 11-point deficit to grab a six-point lead with less than a minute remaining, but Detroit did not waver. Katie Smith swished a difficult 3-pointer with a defender draped on her with 1.3 seconds left to force overtime, and in the extra session the Shock rolled to a 77-73 road win. Smith finished with 23 points and teammate Cheryl Ford added 18 points and 11 rebounds as they handed the Sun their first loss of the season.

Let the Balloting Begin: The WNBA is celebrating its 10th anniversary season and the stars will be celebrated on July 12 in New York City during the All-Star Game. The ballots are up and voting has begun. Six-time all-star Nykesha Sales was in action on Saturday, as she went for 17 points, five rebounds and four assists in the Sun's 77-73 home loss.

Laimbeer

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
"It was a game of wills between two fine basketball teams. At times it was pretty, and at times it was ugly, but the bottom line was it was a very competitive game. They are the two-time (defending) champions of the Eastern Conference and they took our spot and they know we want it back."

-- Detroit coach Bill Laimbeer on the Shock-Sun matchup on Saturday, which the Shock won, 77-73 in overtime.

Augustus
ROOKIE WATCH
21, 15 and 23. Three games into Seimone Augustus' career and the points keep piling up for the guard out of LSU. Augustus, the No. 1 pick in the 2006 draft, shot 9-of-16 en route to her 23 and added five rebounds. She still has room for improvement, however, as she committed six turnovers and the Lynx were beat by the Mystics, 90-75, on Saturday.

Byears
FILLING THE BOX SCORE
Latasha Byears had 12 points and eight rebounds over her first two games combined this season. Well, in game No. 3, she made her mark. Byears had 20 points, 14 rebounds, four steals, two assists and a block in Washington's 90-75 win over Minnesota.
