Defensive Player Of The Year Award On Griner's Radar

Back-to-back WNBA Defensive Player of the Year Brittney Griner is issuing a warning to the rest of the league – she’s coming for you.

The shot-blocking specialist didn’t hold back when asked if a third consecutive DPOY Award was on her radar this season.

“It is. It’s one of the only awards that I really care about getting,” Griner said. “When I’m playing good defense, that’s when I’m helping out my team, so that’s something I’m definitely going for.”

Griner currently leads the WNBA with 3.0 blocks per game and has led the league in the category every season since entering the league in 2013. There’s no doubt the 6-foot-8 center is the premier rim-protector in the WNBA, and is a game-changer in the paint for the Phoenix Mercury.

Playing in her first Olympics this summer, Griner led the United States with 11 blocks in eight starts and made her interior presence felt on an international stage during the USA’s sixth straight gold medal run.
