Stewart: Jersey Sales A 'Big Deal'

It’s been a crazy few months for Breanna Stewart.

To think that she was wrapping up a fourth consecutive NCAA National Championship with UConn just five months ago is incredible, given the fact that she has since become the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft, and just won her first Olympic gold medal with the United States.

Stewie’s list of accomplishments doesn’t stop there, as the Rookie of the Year favorite is now atop another leaderboard – the WNBA jersey sales list.

“It was surprising, I think it’s a big deal,” Stewart said. “It just goes to show the amount of support I’ve gotten so far in the WNBA and hopefully it’s helping the league as well.”

She then continued on, talking about the first time she saw someone wearing her jersey and what it means to her.

“I remember the first time, I think it was either in person or on social media,” Stewart noted. “People are always sending me pictures of themselves in my jersey and it’s kind of surreal just to realize that I’ve gotten to a point where people are wearing my jerseys to games, to practice and in their everyday lives. It’s truly humbling and it’s kind of cool.”

Stewart has taken the WNBA and Seattle by storm, averaging 19.2 points (5th in league) and 9.3 rebounds (2nd in league) per game. The Storm are tied for the eighth and final playoff seed with 10 games to play, and the new gold medalist will look to carry them into their first postseason since 2013.
