NEW YORK, Sept. 15, 2015 – Kelsey Bone of the Connecticut Sun and Monique Currie of the Phoenix Mercury were named the WNBA’s Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Sept. 7 through Sept. 13.

Bone earned the Player of the Week honor for the first time in her three-year career.  A WNBA All-Rookie Team selection in 2013, Bone helped Connecticut post a 1-1 record during the week.  The Texas A&M product led the WNBA in scoring (25.0 ppg) and tied for third in the Eastern Conference in rebounding (7.0 rpg).

Bone opened the week with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds in a 74-64 loss at the New York Liberty on Sept. 9.  She followed that performance with a career-high 31 points on   Sept. 13 as the Sun closed out the 2015 regular season with an 86-75 win over the Chicago Sky, the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Currie, a 10-year WNBA veteran, also earned her first career Player of the Week honor, as the playoff-bound Mercury went 1-1 to finish the season at 20-14.  The Duke University product scored a then-season-high 22 points in a 70-65 win over the Los Angeles Sparks on Sept. 11.  Two days later, Currie topped that effort with a career-high 26 points to go with five rebounds and four assists in a 91-87 road loss to the Tulsa Shock.

Other candidates for the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were the Atlanta Dream’s Angel McCoughtry, the Sky’s Allie Quigley, the Indiana Fever’s Shavonte Zellous, the Minnesota Lynx’s Sylvia Fowles, and the Shock’s Brianna Kiesel.
