All-Star Tickets on Sale in D.C. Saturday

NEW YORK, May 29 -- On Sat., June 1, WNBA fans living in the Washington, D.C. area will have an exclusive opportunity to be among the first to purchase tickets to the 2002 WNBA All-Star Game. Tickets go on public sale at 10 a.m. at the MCI Center Box Office, located on F Street between 6th and 7th streets in Washington, D.C.


On the same day, the Washington Mystics tip-off their 2002 season against the Orlando Miracle at 6 p.m. ET. The MCI Center Box Office will remain open for the purchase of All-Star Game tickets until the end of the game. Tickets will not be available in the rest of the United States until Mon., June 3.

The 2002 WNBA All-Star Game, featuring the world’s best women basketball players, will be played on Monday, July 15 at the MCI Center and will be televised by ESPN beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET. With tickets starting at $10, the whole family can enjoy the unique experience of seeing the superstars of the WNBA together in one of the league’s marquee events.

“The Washington area has been such a strong supporter of the Mystics and the WNBA, we thought the fans deserved to be rewarded for their loyalty,” said WNBA President Val Ackerman. “Giving residents a head start to purchase tickets to one of the WNBA’s premier event is our way of saying thank you.”

The WNBA tipped-off its sixth season on May 25 during Memorial Day weekend. The WNBA concluded the 2001 season by crowning a new champion for the first time in league history and recording the 10 millionth fan to attend a game since the league’s inception. During the 2001 season, more than 2.5 million fans attended WNBA games, the most ever, and for the fifth straight season, WNBA regular season attendance averaged over 9,000 fans. The league’s combined local, national and international television coverage reached nearly 60 million fans in 23 different languages and 167 countries.
