Training Camp Recap
Washington, D.C– With only a few more days until the preseason game against Houston, the Mystics continued to work on different offensive and defensive plays to prepare for the game on Saturday. With the roster now trimmed down to 13 players, Washington is getting closer to what the team is going to look like.
Quotes from Practice:
Head Coach Richie Adubato:
“They have Sheryl Swoopes and Tina Thompson, two of the premiere players. They have been great players in the league. They will probably be in their full rotation with their substitution patterns. They will probably ready to press us, to throw some zone at us. He (Van Chancellor) hasn’t been known for zone but he will press man and zone full court. We have to prepare, we have to be ready. Hopefully our offensive execution is good and our defense is good. We did a lot of defensive drills today to get us ready. We won’t have the benefit, which is good in a way of having a scouting report of actually knowing what they do. We prepare naturally when we play someone to have studied them to watch them very careful to have our preparation organized so we can gain between 10-12 points each night on that opposing team.”
Assistant Coach Marynell Meadors:
“I think it’s going to let us know exactly where we are and what we need to work on. I think Houston will have most of their players on the floor. We are really going to have to play well. They’ll have Michelle Snow and they’ll have Sheryl Swoopes. They’ll pretty much have their starting lineup and we’ll have ours. I think it’s going to be a good challenge and a really good game. I think we’re going to come out and give it everything we have. We looked good in the game we had against San Antonio and now we have to build on that.”
“We are really excited to play against someone else; we are tired of beating up on each other. So it’ll be good to take it out on another team. Hopefully we come through with the win.”
“I think we expect everyday for us to get a little bit better. This is our second exhibition game and we want to be better than we were in the first. Hopefully offensively we can clean some things up a little bit and make it to the third and fourth options. We’ve been struggling with that a little bit, just getting the new rotations. I think if we can clean it up offensively, we are going to be tough to beat.”
On Wednesday the Mystics cut Mactabene Amachree, Rita Williams and Aya Traore from the roster… The Mystics President and Managing Partner, Sheila Johnson will do an interview on the main floor during halftime at the game on Saturday.
