Mystics Acquire Forward-Center Tillis

Team Trades 13th Pick to Detroit Shock

Washington Mystics General Manager Linda Hargrove announced today that the team has traded its 13th pick in the first round of the WNBA Draft for 6-5 forward-center Iciss Tillis. She will be reunited with her former Duke University teammate Alana Beard.

“Iciss will fit in nicely with the team we are trying to build,” said Hargrove. “She has a year of experience in the WNBA in addition to playing overseas during the off-season.”

During her season with the Shock, Tillis averaged 2.7 ppg, and 1.30 rpg. She was selected in the first round (11th overall) of the 2004 WNBA draft. While at Duke, Tillis was named to the All-ACC first team (2002, 2003, and 2004) and received ACC tournament MVP honors in 2003 and 2004. She averaged 12.5 ppg and 6.9 rpg during her four years at Duke.

The 2005 Mystics season kicks off on Saturday, May 21st at 7:00 p.m. when the team travels to Charlotte to take on the Sting.
