Mystics Host Fourth Annual Youth Summer League Tip-Off Event

The Washington Mystics hosted a tip-off event for their annual Mystics Youth Summer League (MYSL) on Saturday, May 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Turkey Thicket Recreation Center. MYSL is entering its fourth year of providing basketball for females ages 10 to 18. It is also the fourth consecutive year that the Mystics have partnered with the Greater Washington Sports Alliance and DC Parks and Recreation for the implementation of the league and the first year with their new sponsor, Kay Jewelers.

“The Mystics, Kay Jewelers, and our partners are committed to being active community leaders. The operation of the League continues that approach, providing young females residing throughout the metropolitan area the opportunity to play organized basketball throughout the summer at zero cost to the participants,” said David Deal, Senior Director of Camps & Clinics. “We’ve enjoyed three great years of this partnership and look forward to continuing that success.”

The tip-off event included a skills clinic and coaches clinic, and concluded with an autograph session and raffle. The entire 2011 Washington Mystics team as well as General Manager and Head Coach Trudi Lacey were in attendance to provide assistance with the clinics.

MYSL participants received a reversible jersey along with a complimentary ticket to see the Mystics take on the Chicago Sky on Saturday, August 20. MYSL championship games will take place during pregame and postgame of the August 20 contest at Verizon Center.
