The Mystics acquired Melvin with the second pick in the 2004 Dispersal Draft on January 6th. The Dispersal Draft was held this year to distribute players from the Cleveland Rockers roster after the team dissolved following the 2003 season. Melvin is currently playing overseas in Poland for team Lotos VBW Clima (Gdynia, POL).
Melvin is a five-year WNBA veteran. She was selected in the first round (11th overall) by the Rockers in the 1999 draft. During the 2002 and 2003 seasons, she started every game for the Rockers. In five seasons with the Rockers, the 6-3 center averaged 11.1 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game. She also shot 46.6 % from the field and 70.2% from the free throw line during her stay in Cleveland. During the 2003 season, Melvin set new franchise records for most points in a season with 444 points and most rebounds in a season with 215, averaging 13.1 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game. She finished the season ranked seventh in field goal percentage (47.7%), 14th in total rebounds (215) and 17th in points per game (13.1) among all WNBA players. She led the Rockers to three post season appearances (2000, 2001 and 2003), averaging 10.6 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game in the playoffs.
