This will be the first of two meetings between the two teams. Last season the Mystics and the Storm split the series 1-1, each team winning on their home court. Mystics guard Alana Beard averaged 12.5 points per game against the Storm last year while forward Monique Currie added 8.0 points per game. Storm forward Lauren Jackson and guard Sue Bird led their team with 13.0 and 12.5 points per game respectively. The Mystics lead the all-time series 8-7.

Forward Monique Currie reached her 500th career rebound, posting four rebounds in the Mystics loss against the New York Liberty on Sunday. Mystics forward Nakia Sanford recorded her 100th career block, posting two blocks against the Detroit Shock on August 11. Guard Alana Beard surpassed her career 3,000 points when she led all scorers with 18 points in the Mystics loss against the Connecticut Sun on August 9.
