Beard Considered Week-to-Week

Beard Out With Shoulder Injury

WASHINGTON, D.C. General Manager Linda Hargrove announced today that Alana Beard has a strained left shoulder. The Mystics athletic trainer as well as the team doctor expects the guard to be week-to-week. Beard injured her shoulder overseas while playing in Italy with USA Basketball.

Beard played in 32 games in 2006 and averaged a team high 31.1 minutes per game and 19.2 points per game. Last season, Beard was named a starter for the Eastern Conference in the 2006 WNBA All-Star game. She was also on the USA Basketball World Championship team that won a Bronze medal in the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Brazil.

Shes obviously doing everything she can to get back on the basketball court as quickly as possible. With that said we dont want to take any chances and we want to make sure shes strong and not set her up for additional injuries, said General Manager, Linda Hargrove. Its a strained shoulder so well evaluate her pretty much at the end of each week and see what progress shes made.

The Mystics will tip off its tenth season on Saturday May 19th at 6:00 p.m. when the team hosts conference rival, Connecticut Sun. Washington will be the host of the 2007 WNBA All- Star game on July 15th. Season tickets, partial plans and All-Star tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased by calling the Mystics Sales Office at 1-877-DC-HOOP1 or by visiting the Mystics web site at www.washingtonmystics.com.
