WASHINGTON, D.C. –Washington Mystics President and Managing Partner, Sheila C. Johnson, announced today the appointment of Greg Bibb as the team’s Chief Operating Officer. In his new position, Bibb will oversee the team’s day to day operations.
“Greg’s experience in sports management, sponsorship, sales and overall marketing is essential as we reposition the Washington Mystics for continued growth in 2008,” said Sheila C. Johnson. “We are delighted to have an executive of his caliber on board and feel the new direction will strongly benefit our growing fan-base and our corporate supporters.”
Lincoln Holdings Chairman and Majority Owner, Ted Leonsis, added “Greg is a highly regarded and very well rounded operations executive--with more than a decade of experience in sports management. We look forward to working with him and his team to lead the Mystics to operational excellence and to the highest levels of customer satisfaction".
Bibb brings over 10 years of ticket sales, corporate sponsorship and branding experience to the Mystics. For the last two years, he was the President of Hantz Group Sports & Entertainment and was instrumental in the launch of the Detroit Ignition of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) in October 2006. While leading the Ignition, Bibb served as the primary liaison to the MISL League office with membership on the MISL Management Committee and was Co-Chair of MISL Broadcast and New Media Committee. He was also a Member of MISL Marketing and Team Operations Committee.
Bibb has also served as the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Philadelphia KiXX soccer team, and oversaw all of the team’s fiscal operations including budgeting, forecasting and bookkeeping. Under his leadership, the team increased its overall revenue by 40% while increasing the growth of the team’s summer camp program by over 100%. Prior to joining the Philadelphia KiXX, Bibb was the Director of Public and Media Relations with MISL, where he helped implement and enforce communications strategy for the MISL and the League’s member clubs.
"I'm excited to join the Washington Mystics organization," Bibb stated. "I would like to thank the Lincoln Holdings ownership group for this opportunity and I look forward to helping forge the Mystics into a winning team, both on and off the court. I believe in the WNBA product and I'm eager to get started as we prepare for next season and beyond."
Bibb replaces Curtis Symonds who resigned to pursue his other passion, business operations for his latest venture, a sports complex based in Virginia. Symonds joined the Mystics in August of 2005.
A native of Hershey, PA, Bibb graduated Magna Cum Laude from Marist College. Greg and his wife Tara are new parents to daughter Adelyn Grace.
