Battle Ready Backcourt
In their final preseason tune-up against the New York Liberty, the Mystics’ starting backcourt of Matee Ajavon and Lindsey Harding outscored their Liberty counterparts 25-11. The duo also wreaked havoc on the defensive end, collecting five steals. The return of three-time All-Star Alana Beard back into the starting lineup should make the unit even stronger.
Mystics Milestones
Alana Beard is on pace to score her 3000th career point this season. She is also five assists away from 500 assists and eight steals away from 300 steals. Chasity Melvin is aiming to score her 3500th career point, grab her 2000th career rebound, collect her 300th steal and dish out her 500th assist.
Honoring the Youth
Last week the Washington Mystics held a celebration honoring the second season of the Mystics Youth Summer League (MYSL), an initiative launched last summer in cooperation with DC Parks and Recreation and the Greater Washington Sports Alliance (GWSA). MYSL was created to provide D.C. area girls with structured environment to play basketball.
