1-on-1: Tierra Ruffin-Pratt
WashingtonMystics.com sat down with rookie guard Tierra Ruffin-Pratt for a 1-on-1 interview...
WM.com: How has the transition into WNBA play been for you so far?
TRP: It’s been a lot easier than I thought it would be with the help of the veterans working with us and talking to us. So, it’s been a good transition during training camp and I think it’s going to be a great experience here with the Mystics.
WM.com: Have you had to change how you think or play to fit the style here?
TRP: Well at [North] Carolina we did a lot of running and up-and-down stuff so it’s kind of just building on that because the pace of the game is so much faster. So I’m just building on what I learned at Carolina and just running and doing a lot of rebounding.
WM.com: Is there anything you have been working on in practice in preparation for the season?
TRP: I guess a lot of ball handing, and getting shots up.
WM.com: What has it been like working with Coach Thibault?
TRP: Well it’s been great, he’s helping us a lot because everyone is out here learning his new system. So he’s helping us out a lot, and the veterans are talking to us a lot. He’s doing a great job.
WM.com: You played for T.C. Williams in Alexandria in high school. What’s it like to be back playing in the DC area again?
TRP: Oh, it’s a great feeling to be home and being able to see my family and my family being able to come out and watch me play and stuff like that, so it’s a great feeling to be back in the area.
WM.com: What do you feel you bring to the table for this team as you look to improve on last year’s record?
TRP: Just a lot of rebounding and hustle plays.
WM.com: What are your personal goals for the season?
TRP: To win more games. [laughs]
WM.com: In the last preseason game against the Lynx you went 3-3 from the field with three rebounds. Tell me a little bit about how you played and how you felt.
TRP: I just ran a lot, hard, I was taking good shots, open shots, and they were going in. The first preseason game I didn’t make a lot of shots. I was just taking better shots and getting on the boards hard.
WM.com: Thoughts on the season opener against the Shock? Do you think the team is ready?
TRP: I think we’re ready, we’re all focused in and joining in what we’re learning in practice. I think we’re all buying into the system.
