Weekly Community Involvement

May 7th & May 9th

  • The Mystics along with Sibley Memorial Hospital have created a new assembly program that will bring Washington Mystics players into schools throughout the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area. “Be Smart, Be Fit, Be Yourself” assembly program is intended to positively influence young people to become physically active and to raise awareness on how being fit improves health, self image and overall well being.
  • Bernice Mosby and Nikki Blue will kickoff the first assembly at Lincoln Middle School in Washington, DC on Wednesday, May 8th at 2pm. Amber Jacobs and Laurie Koehn will be at Washington Latin School on Friday, May 9th at 8am.

    Wednesday, May 7th

  • Taj McWilliams-Franklin, Crystal Langhorne, Tree Rollins and Linda Hargrove will be at the Greater Washington Sports Alliance Evening of Champions on Wednesday, May 7th.

    Friday, May 9th

  • Nakia Sanford along with Rookie Crystal Langhorne will both stop by the Guppy Gala at the National Zoo on Friday, May 9th. Both players will be on hand to sign autographs.

    Community Activities

    Auctions
    Are you looking to get unique Mystics items that no one else has? This season the Mystics will have three Silent Auctions on the concourse: Tuesday, May 27th; Tuesday, June 24th; and Friday, July 18th. Check back for more information on which items will be auctioned.

    Summer Reading Program
    The Mystics have teamed up with Heart of America for a Summer Reading program. Check back soon for a summer book list. If you complete all the books on the list, you could receive a ticket to an upcoming Mystics game.

    Mystics Diaper Drive
    With Mother’s Day right around the corner, the Mystics would like to recognize women who devote much of their time to providing for their children. In honor of this day, the Mystics will host its first annual Mystics-March of Dimes Diaper Drive at the Verizon Center. This diaper drive will take place on Tuesday, May 13th at 7:00 pm at the Mystics preseason game against the Houston Comets. There will be collection bins at the F street entrance. Those in attendance are encouraged to donate new baby items to be donated to two local programs, Stork’s Nest and NICU Family Support.

    Examples of items include:
    Pajamas
    Onesies books for new parents
    hygiene products
    diapers
    baby wipes
    and any other items that mothers and their babies could use.

    All contributions are welcome in that we want to provide these babies with the necessities needed to begin their life. Help us make our first ever Mystics-March of Dimes Diaper Drive a success!

    Go Red For Women
    The WNBA and the American Heart Association (AHA) have formed an alliance to promote the Go Red for Women (GRFW) campaign. GRFW encourages women to learn more about heart health, and raises awareness of the risks of heart disease in women. The Mystics will host the Go Red for Women Night on Wednesday, June 11th when the Mystics take on the Sacramento Monarchs at 7pm.

    Nothing But Nets
    Nothing But Nets (NBN) is a grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing Malaria through the purchase and distribution of bed nets, which have been proved to reduce Malaria mortality. The Mystics will team up with Nothing But Nets to help save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. Every 30 seconds somewhere in Africa a child dies of Malaria. The Mystics will host Nothing But Nets Night on Tuesday, July 8th.

    Sibley Be Smart, Be Fit, Be Yourself is an interactive assembly that will bring Washington Mystics players into schools throughout the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area. The program is intended to positively influence young people to become physically active and to raise awareness on how being fit improves health, self image and overall well being. The Washington Mystics will serve as role models for healthy living through its “Be Smart, Be Fit, Be Yourself " Program.
