annapolis: welcome to the washington mystics, where we have the most loyal and dedicated fans. what will you bring to help the mystics reach higher goals than ever and are you excited about playing in washington d.c. with Chamique and company?
chasity melvin: Yes, I'm very excited about coming to Washington. I think I can bring an additional inside presence to the team, which will help our depth.
Dawnn(NCSU Grad-Raleigh): What's up homegirl...the folk in Roseboro, NC are so proud of you, we're glad you'll be a little closer to home...How about you? What are you looking forward to the most?
chasity melvin: I'm definitely looking forward to being closer to home. I wanted to stay on the East Coast. I'm looking forward to winning in front of all those plans. The league is improved, with all those good players coming into teams, and I'm looking forward to helping us win.
washington, D.C.: Chasity, I Like to welcome you to Washington. I've long admired your game. What position do you like to play, power foward or center.
chasity melvin: I like both. I'm trying to improve my game to play the four, more. I can always move down and bang and play center. But I want to work on my game so I can be more effective at the four.
Fairfax: Where exactly in Poland are you? and what do you do in your off days?
chasity melvin: I'm in a city called Gdynia and I'm playing for a team here, with Margo Dydek and Elaine Powell. We play and then we go to restaurants and clubs afterward when it isn't too cold. (laughing)
csup: What do you miss the most when you play overseas?
chasity melvin: I just miss my family.
Laryn (Cleveland, OH): Chas...what were player reactions when the announcement to fold the Cleveland team was made?
chasity melvin: All the players were disappointed. Washington has great fans, but Cleveland has some great, dedicated fans. We didn't really understand the reasoning behind it, because we worked real hard and the fans were loyal.
yolanda, denver: you have an unusual first name, how did you get it and what do most people say when they hear what your name is?
chasity melvin: My Mom named me after Sonny and Cher's daughter because they loved the TV Show. Most people just say it's unusual.
regina, hyattsville,md: who are some of the players you look forward to the challenge of playing and why?
chasity melvin: I get excited about playing against all the fowards and centers in the league. They are all good, and bring different strengths.
Amanda (Cleveland): Do you have anything to say to the fans in Cleveland? Will you miss Cleveland?
chasity melvin: I want to tell the fans in Cleveland they will always have a place in my heart. Thanks so much for all the support.
Accokeek, MD: Chasity, I am personally so happy the Mystics selected you with their #2 pick. Welcome to Washington DC. I notice one thing lacking in the Mystics game is team rebounding. Chamique does an awesome job on the boards, but we need more help. Do you see yourself helping in this area?
chasity melvin: I definitely want to do what I can do to help the team. I will do whatever I can to help the team, whether it's rebounding or anything else.
roberta, wash. dc: What has been the biggest changes in the WNBA over the five years you have been in the league?
chasity melvin: I would just say the talent level gets better every year, and it gets much more competitive. I think the East is getting better too, and is catching up with the West.
ryan (lusby, md): are you guaranteeing the mystics will make the playoffs with you in the line-up? (no pressure! *laugh*)
chasity melvin: Ha-ha (Laughing). I do think the Mystics will improve, but who knows what the future holds. At least they don't have to worry about Cleveland taking a playoff spot anymore.
chasity melvin: I happy to be picked up by the Mystics and I look forward to playing in front of the Washington fans. I also hope people in every city come out and support the WNBA.
