Travis

Initially drafted by the Charlotte Sting (27th overall) in the 2000 WNBA Draft, the 5-11 guard played for two seasons in the WNBA, prior to being invited to Monarchs Training Camp. In 2000, Travis played in all 32 games as a rookie and started 12 games for the Sting. Travis led the team in three-point field goal percentage (48.0) and was fourth in three-point field goals made (12) and attempted (25). In 2001, she missed the entire season due to a contusion to the right knee.

On Sunday, May 18, Monarchs forward Tangela Smith returned to the team after an extended playing stint overseas. With the arrival of Smith, the Monarchs roster now includes all returning veterans from the 2002 season and the team can now prepare for the 2003 season and their first opponent, the Phoenix Mercury.

Against the Mercury, the Monarchs are 9-12 all-time, however in the last three seasons, the Monarchs have been the victors six out of the last nine times. In five of the six Monarchs victories over Phoenix, forward Yolanda Griffith has been the team-high scorer. The Mercury's most prolific scorer against the Monarchs has been Jennifer Gillom, who led the Mercury four times in the last nine meetings. With the Sparks acquisition of Gillom, the Monarchs will face a new Mercury team, minus this scoring foe.
