MONARCHS PLANT SEEDS FOR LEARNING AT MUSTARD SEED SCHOOL
Chelsea Newton and A'Quonesia Franklin host reading timeout

By Alex Sigua

As part of the WNBA’s Read to Achieve campaign, Sacramento Monarchs players Chelsea Newton and A’Quonesia Franklin visited students who are in need at Mustard Seed School to host a special Reading Timeout. The students enjoyed listening to stories from Newton and Franklin, engaged in a question and answer session, received autographs and took individual photos. The fun was topped off with Monarchs prizes from the players, including a book donation on behalf of University of Phoenix.

Mustard Seed School was established in 1989 to help meet the needs of children who are in need in the Sacramento area. The school provides students with a safe, nurturing and structured environment, a positive learning experience, survival resources, medical and dental screenings, immunization updates, counseling and assistance entering or reentering public schools. Mustard Seed is a free, private school for children ages 3-15.

Read to Achieve is a year-round campaign to help young people develop a lifelong love for reading and encourage adults to read regularly with children. Reaching an estimated 50 million children a year, Read to Achieve is the most extensive educational outreach initiative in the history of professional sports.
