SACRAMENTO, CALIF., June 30, 2005 – The Sacramento Monarchs today announce that former WNBA MVP Yolanda Griffith was named as a starter for the 2005 WNBA All-Star Game, to be played on Saturday, July 9, at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Griffith, who will represent the Western Conference, will make her second appearance as a starter; her first coming in 2001. This game will mark Griffith’s fifth All-Star selection and the WNBA’s sixth All-Star Game.

Griffith received 79,505 to garner the starting center spot for the Western Conference. She is averaging 14.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game so far this season. She currently ranks fourth in the league in rebounds per game, double-doubles (3.0) and total efficiency points (16.9). Griffith is seventh in the WNBA in field goal percentage (.526) and ninth in points per game.

Fans determined the starters for the 2005 WNBA All-Star Game and balloting was conducted online at wnba.com and in all 13 WNBA arenas across the country.

Sacramento will play two more games on the road before the 2005 WNBA All-Star break. The Monarchs will return to ARCO Arena on Thursday, July 14, to host the San Antonio Silver Stars at 11:30 a.m. in a game to be televised locally on News10.
