SACRAMENTO, CALIF., Aug. 6, 2008 -- The Sacramento Monarchs today announced forward Rebekkah Brunson underwent successful surgery this morning to repair a lateral meniscus tear in her right knee. Monarchs Team Doctor, Kirk Lewis, performed the surgery. Brunson will begin rehabilitation immediately and once cleared, she will resume her training and conditioning. It is projected that Brunson will be out four to six weeks; a complete recovery is expected.

Brunson, a 2007 All-Star selection and a starter for the Monarchs, initially was diagnosed on July 10 of this year and has been playing with the injury until recently. Through 27 games of the 2008 season, Brunson is averaging 11.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 1.2 steals, 0.6 blocks and 26.2 minutes per game.

Currently in her fifth season with Sacramento, Brunson has played in 162 games (87 starts) and has career averages of 8.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.5 blocks per game.

The WNBA is currently in the midst of an Olympic break from July 28-Aug. 23, 2008, to allow for WNBA players to compete for their respective National Teams at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Currently, all members of the Sacramento Monarchs not participating in the 2008 Summer Olympics are in Sacramento and will take part in various activities during the break.
