In 2004 several of the Sacramento Monarchs will look to near statistical milestones from games played to blocks made in a game. However, no Monarchs players would ever reach a milestone without the help of her teammates. Each member of the team plays an important role in allowing each other to reach significant marks during their careers. All team members assist one another in pursuit of a win, and along the way they have some great performances.

There are a few players who will near their 200th WNBA game. Ruthie Bolton is only 16 games away, while Tangela Smith and Ticha Penicheiro are 11 and 27 games away from 200, respectively.

Points are another category that some of the players will collect this season en route to career milestones. Yolanda Griffith is 157 points away from 2,500, while Smith is 328 points away from the same goal. In just her second season, Kara Lawson is 237 points away from her 500th point while DeMya Walker is 149 points away from her 1,000th.

Players will also accrue playing time, as Griffith is only 326 minutes away from 5,000, while Bolton is 376 minutes from that same target. Leading the way to 6,000 minutes is Smith; she’s 775 minutes away from that mark.

Making baskets is crucial to the team and Griffith is no amateur as she’s 161 buckets away from 1,000, while Smith is only 87 field goals away from the same mark. Scoring more points should be no problem for these two, as Penicheiro, the team’s all-time assist leader, is only 221 assists away from 1,500.

Rebounds are also important to the team whether they be offensive or defensive. Either way the Monarchs are grabbing the ball off the boards. Griffith is 87 rebounds away from her 1,500th board, while Smith needs to pull down 20 more for her 1,000th rebound. Lady Grooms needs 15 boards for her 500th, while DeMya Walker is 92 rebounds away from that same target.

Defensively, the Monarchs should make their mark as well. Penicheiro is 31 steals away from 400, and Griffith is eight (8) steals away from 300, while Smith needs 23 more steals for her 200th. Smith also needs 19 more blocks to reach 300.

This season our Monarchs players may reach career milestones, but none would be accomplished without the help of the team. Each member plays an important role and collectively they form the Monarchs.
