Fans Welcome Monarchs
The Monarchs tipped off their first event of the year on Tuesday, May 18, 2004 with “Meet the Monarchs.” This gave the greatest fans in the WNBA a chance to meet with all of the team members including coaches, assistants and rookies.

As the Monarchs public address announcer Jamie Coffee introduced the team members, they entered on to the court with great exuberance that was met with high fives from the cutest and hardest working youngsters in the entertainment industry, “The Hip-Hop Crew” and the welcoming applause of the home crowd. There was a feeling of anticipation and suspense that is to come from another action packed season.

The Monarchs sat in a semi-circle at mid-court as they answered questions from their fans. One of the main topics included the change in the three-point line, which most of the players felt that it would not affect them, except for the ever so charismatic and entertaining Lady Grooms. Grooms worked hard in the off season to perfect her shot from where the old three-point line was and now must work even harder this coming season to help re-adjust to the new three-point line. The players also talked about what they do after games to help give the crowd an insight on what it is like to play in the WNBA.

The evening neared the end with contests that included a competitive tricycle race amongst the players, a hilarious dance contest and a shooting contest that allowed fans to be picked from the audience and paired with a player; where the player who made the first shot won a team store gift certificate for their team member. To top off the lovely evening the Monarchs signed autographs for their die-hard fans.
