HELENA - The Montana High School Association has announced eight new
inductees to its Athletes' Hall of Fame.
Included in the ninth class of inductees is Cass Bauer-Bilodeau of Hysham,
who plays for the Sacramento Monarchs of the WNBA. Bauer-Bilodeau also was a
star player for Montana State.
She is joined by Bill Zadick, who was a four-time Class AA state wrestling
champion at Great Falls. He went on to become a two-time All-American at the
University of Iowa and was team captain in 1996.
Also among the inductees is Shannon Butler of Eureka. He was a five-time
high school state champion in track and cross country, later winning NCAA
championships in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters at Montana State.
The remaining inductees are: Carla Beattie-Cunneen of Philipsburg, Julie
Calahan-Bauer of Havre, Bob Graves and Mike Welton of Billings and Don
Wetzel of Cut Bank.
Beattie-Cunneen set the state girl's career record for most points scored in
high school before playing at the University of Montana. Calahan-Bauer led
Havre to the state Class AA basketball title before playing at Northwestern
University.
Graves was a member of Billings Senior's 1948 football and 1949 track and
field state championship teams, while Welton holds the Billings West career
and season basketball scoring records.
Wetzel was on Cut Bank's 1966 state championship basketball team and earned
All-America honors in 1967, when he also won the state high jump and low
hurdles titles.
The MSHA Athletes' Hall of Fame ceremony is scheduled for Jan. 19 at the
Billings Sheraton. Tickets are $20 per person.
