Monarchs Guard Edna Campbell and Forward Tangela Smith are ready for the 2004 WNBA season after recently finishing their 2003-04 off-season basketball schedules.
Campbell’s team, the Colorado Chill of the NWBL (National Women’s Basketball League), advanced to the NWBL Championship game, but lost, 73-69 to the Dallas Fury. Campbell helped the Chill to finish with a 16-7 overall record averaging 12.1 points per game while shooting 42.9 percent (73-of-170) from the floor and 50 percent (30-of-60) from behind the three-point line. She also averaged 2.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game. In addition, Campbell was also a member of the first-ever NWBL All-Star team where she represented the National All-Stars back in February.
Smith recently finished a six game European Tour with USA Basketball Women’s Senior National Team as an Olympic hopeful. Smith Averaged 17.2 minutes and 8.2 points per game on 69.7 percent (23-of-33) shooting. She also averaged 3.7 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 0.7 blocks per game. Prior to her outing with USA Basketball, Smith played three games with C.B. Puig d’en Valls Sta. Eulàlia in Spain where she averaged 36.7 minutes, 12.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists 3.3 steals and 0.7 blocks per game.
Both Campbell and Smith will now count down the days until Monarchs training camp, which begins Sunday, April 25.
