As part of the WNBA’s Read to Achieve campaign, the Sacramento Monarchs teamed up with SIMS Recycling Solutions on Tuesday to host a special Reading Timeout at Anna Kirchgater Elementary School in Sacramento. Monarchs players Ticha Penicheiro and Kim Smith spent the afternoon reading with students from the Sacramento START program. The students also enjoyed autographs from the players, fun Monarchs prizes, a book donation courtesy of SIMS Recycling Solutions and photos to last a lifetime.
Read to Achieve is a year-round campaign to help young people develop a lifelong love for reading and encourage adults to read regularly with children. Reaching an estimated 50 million children a year, Read to Achieve is the most extensive educational outreach initiative in the history of professional sports.
