"Our goal going in is just to get better and I thought that we did that in the areas we were focusing on.”

On the play of A’Quonesia Franklin:
"She’s got a lot of heart and you can’t teach that.”

On the play of Laura Harper:
"I thought she played really well, she just got off of the plane and has only been here two days, she’s a gamer.”

"Will a faster style of play be more effective with this unit? "That has been a goal from day one, to establish an identity of intensity on the defensive end and playing faster on the offensive end.”

How was your first WNBA game:
"I was very nervous but the vets did a great job of talking to me, it was just very exciting.”

On fitting into the offense:
"That’s what we have been working on from day one, just to push the ball up the floor and that’s what I like to do, push the ball up the floor and find shooters.”

On trying to fit into the Monarchs system:
"That’s what it’s all about, just defensive intensity and I was just trying to do that tonight.”

How hard is it to come from reporting on the sidelines back to the W NBA?
"There is definitely an adjustment period because we have so many rookies coming in, but the WNBA season is short so it’s usually the teams who get off to a hot start that end up making the playoffs.”

Outlook for the Season:
"We feel like over the past five years we have been one of the best teams in the league and we are anxious to try and prove that again this year.”

How was it playing with Yolanda out there, here in Sacramento?
"Yo (Yolanda) is a seasoned vet. She’s able to see things that maybe the younger players don’t necessarily see yet. Her talking and her defensive presence out there is huge for us. She did an excellent job out there early on by setting the tone. It was good to see her out there.”

Are you exited about playing with Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson?
"I’m exited to play with everyone on the team. There’s tremendous talent and a lot of veteran leadership. I’m looking forward to getting everybody back at camp and getting that cohesiveness going.”

Yolanda Griffith
Q: After nine years here, how did you feel about being back in Sacramento?
"It was tough. Sheryl kept getting in my ear making sure I was focused, but once the ball goes up I’m going to represent Seattle.”

What changed the momentum in the fourth quarter?
"When you have Sacramento down you have to keep them down because they’ll find a way to give [Kara Lawson] the ball or [Rebekkah Brunson] will get an offensive rebound. I just think that tonight, 20 turn overs will help a team win a game.”
