Head Coach Jenny Boucek

Head Coach Jenny BoucekOn playing San Antonio:
“They are hard to get a rhythm against but I thought we showed great perseverance and resilience and got a lot of good minutes from a lot of good people and we found a way.”

On the rotations:
“With all of the injuries and people coming back late, our rotations are really out of whack from what we’ve been doing all preseason. I’ll take responsibility for some of those runs they went on, just not knowing what to expect from the rookies or the people getting back late.”

On the play of Nicole Powell::
“She only had two practices but she is a play maker, and a great one. We are really happy to have her back. She’s only going to get better and better as she gets more comfortable.”

On the play of Adrian Williams-Strong:
“It was a very good debut for her, she showed her improvement, her toughness and we are confident in her.”

On the play of the rookies:
“They were nervous, which is to be expected, but they worked very well and we are going to need them. We needed them tonight and they came through.”

Kara Lawson

Kara LawsonThoughts on the first game:
“We only play 36 games, so it was important for us to get off on the right foot. We had a lot of contributions from a lot of people, it was good to see.”

On the play of the rookies and the bench:
“Great minutes from everyone, I thought our bench did a great job coming in. (Laura) Harper came in and gave us some great minutes and we are going to need her to play well. Kim Smith also came in and gave us an infusion of energy.”

Rebekkah Brunson

Rebekkah BrunsonOn the play of Adrian Williams-Strong:
“It’s definitely a good start for her. I think when she goes out she plays with ease and doesn’t put any pressure on her shoulders and plays great and that’s what she did tonight, she just went out there and played.”

On the first win of the season:
“It feels good to get the first win, it definitely feels good to get the season underway, we’ve been preparing for this for a long time. We made a couple of mistakes but we played a good game.”

On overall play of the team:
“Everyone who came out contributed in a good way, they all provided some good minutes for us. I’m proud of all the rookies and I think it’s a good start to the season.”

On the rebounding advantage:
“We didn’t do it the entire way; there was a period where we were giving up a lot of rebounds, but we got hungry and we got them.”

SILVER STARS

Dan Hughes Head Coach Dan Hughes:
You caught up in the beginning of the first half and then lost it. How do you think the team played in the fourth quarter?
“Obviously when you shoot 32 percent you are going to have some issues finishing (the game). Defensively, we gave ourselves a good chance. I didn’t think we shot the ball really well. I have to give credit to Sacramento’s defense. They did a good job and put a lot of pressure on us. We didn’t throw (the game) away though, I thought we took care of it decently, we just didn’t finish shots.”

Sophia Young Sophia Young:
After coming back after the first half and eventually losing in the second, what do you think happened in the fourth quarter?
“I think our team didn’t do a very good job rebounding. We had a lot of mental mistakes. We have to give their team credit, they worked hard and (in the end) they did out-rebound us.”

Erin Buescher Erin Buescher:
How did it feel coming back and playing in Sacramento?
"This is my home. I played here in high school, my family is here and the beach is here. It’s really nice to be back. It’s always a bittersweet thing to come back to Sacramento.”

How do you think your team played tonight?
“Sacramento is a tough team to play against. They are a really good team. Tonight we just didn’t have composure and unfortunately it didn’t give us an opportunity to win the game. We just need to tighten up on a few things.”
