The Monarchs welcome the Silver Stars to ARCO Arena, where the Western Conference foes will tip-off for the first time this season. The last time these two met it was the decisive Game 3 of the first-round of the 2007 WNBA Playoffs, where the Silver Stars snuck past the Monarchs 80-78 in San Antonio. Nicole Powell led four double-digit scoring Monarchs with 20 points and six rebounds. Sophia Young and Becky Hammon combined for 48 points and nine assists to lead the Silver Stars.

Get ready for the Monarchs 2008 Home Opener with Nicole Powell, Scholanda Robinson and Rebekkah Brunson in the GameDay Q & A.

Nicole Powell

Nicole Powell How was your offseason?
"It was good. We didn’t finish the way we wanted to, we got knocked out of the final four of the EuroLeague and we lost in the finals of the Russian League, but regardless of those finishes, we still had a pretty successful season. We only lost a few games and it was a good experience."

What is it like playing overseas, where you have the opportunity to experience so many different cultures and people?
"It was great. I enjoy it so much – seeing different cities. I feel like I got to know Moscow pretty well and I really enjoyed it."

Was there a particular area of your game you worked on during the offseason?
"That’s a hard question to answer, but I played a lot of post while I was over there, so I guess just post moves."

How exciting is Opening Night?
"It’s going to be great! Obviously the girls here have been working really hard, the whole group that’s coming back along with the rookies. It’s a great experience to play in the WNBA and we have the best fans in the League. I know ARCO’s going to be rockin’ and there’s going to be a lot of energy. It’ll be great."

Having transitioned from playing overseas to the WNBA before, how long does it take you to get your bearings set?
"The transition doesn’t take too long. For me, it’s just getting over jet lag and getting used to the intensity that we practice at every day. It just takes a couple of days. My mind’s sharp. I know what we’re doing for the most part since I’ve been here before. So, coming back here for my fourth year, the transition has been easier every year. I think it’ll be no problem this year."

Scholanda Robinson

Scholanda Robinson Are you going to be able to play in the Home Opener?
"Probably not. Thursday was really my first day even going up and down in a full-court setting, so I won’t be able to play on Saturday. It’ll just be a ‘wait and see’ process for me to get integrated back into everything that we’re doing and getting comfortable on the floor again."

Do you anticipate Opening Night will be just as exciting even though you won't be playing?
"It’s still just as exciting to walk out there when your name’s called and to see all those fans in purple cheering for us and screaming at the top of their lungs! It’s still a great environment to be in."

Rebekkah Brunson

Rebekkah Brunson The Home Opener is here! How are you feeling?
"I feel good. We got Nicole back and she looks like she’s definitely ready to play. I think that throughout the entire training camp, we’ve been playing really hard to prepare ourselves for this opening game against San Antonio and we’re definitely ready."

Is it bittersweet facing the Silver Stars in the Home Opener after losing to them in the first-round of the Playoffs last season?
"We definitely have a sour taste in our mouths when it comes to San Antonio. Last year, there were a lot of things we wish we could have done differently but we didn’t, so now we just have another opportunity to go out there and show that we’re the better team."

How excited is the team for the Home Opener?
"We’re excited. We love playing at ARCO. We’ve had a long offseason. We’re just ready to get back to work, ready to play in front of such a supportive fan base and be able to play here in Sacramento. We’re ready to give them a good show."
