The entire Sacramento Monarchs team, along with Maloof Sports & Entertainment Team Members, joined together Saturday in the fight against breast cancer in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at Cal Expo. The race is an annual event to raise awareness and funds in the fight against breast cancer.

“The Monarchs have done a great job to promote Breast Health Awareness,” said Monarchs guard Ticha Penicheiro. “Every year since I’ve been here, more and more people are involved in this event, which is great because it means more people are paying attention and the right things are being done.”

Immediately following the race, Ticha and her fellow teammates joined runners, walkers and fans for the Monarchs Experience, which included performances by the Hip Hop Crew, Monty the Monarchs mascot, face painters, a bounce house and the Monarchs Sport Court. Players shot hoops, helped with arts and crafts and took part in a number fun activities.

This is the 12th consecutive year the Sacramento Monarchs have made Breast Health Awareness their community initiative. Join the Monarchs on July 18 for Breast Health Awareness Night, where breast cancer survivors will be honored during the game.
