On Monday, the Monarchs along with partners Wells Fargo and Dome Printing dedicated a Reading and Learning Center to WIND Youth Services, a local non-profit agency that directly addresses the immediate and long-range needs of Sacramento area homeless, runaway, and street youth and their families.
Before the unveiling ceremony to homeless youth using the facility, volunteers painted, assembled and refurbished two existing rooms that house the Reading & Learning Center.
The Reading & Learning Center included a computer lab along with a reading corner and library. They also received books and other giveaway items.
The 2007 Monarchs season marks the 11th consecutive year in which the Monarchs have adopted reading and literacy as a community priority. This event is in conjunction with the WNBA’s Read to Achieve initiative, which aims to build a lifelong love of reading in youth by providing greater access to books and technology.
The entire Monarchs team and coaching staff were there to interact with the youth, and hand out books and other gifts.
