Sacramento Monarchs Guard, Edna Campbell will join WNBA President, Val Ackerman, on Wednesday, April 21, at the American Cancer Society’s Spotlight on Hope, Sports and Entertainment Industry Gala as they are honored for their dedication to the American Cancer Society’s mission of eliminating cancer as a major health problem.
Campbell, a breast cancer survivor, has spoken to thousands about the importance of early detection. Through the Sacramento Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Edna spoke to high school girls, attended numerous fundraisers, filmed a local PSA and was a team captain for the local “Race for the Cure.”
Both the Sacramento Monarchs and the WNBA have adopted Breast Health Awareness as a community initiative and through work with the Susan G. Komen Foundation have continued to fundraise and spread the word on Breast Health Awareness.
On Saturday, May 8, Maloof Sports & Entertainment and the entire Sacramento Monarchs team will walk in the local Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation “Race for the Cure.” On Tuesday, July 29, the Monarchs will face the Los Angeles Sparks, in a game dedicated to Breast Health Awareness. Throughout this game, information will be distributed about breast health awareness and detection to all fans in attendance that evening. In addition, breast cancer survivors will be honored. Monarchs Breast Health Awareness Night is presented by Sutter Home winery.
