Dan (Tempe): What was it like when you first stepped on the court for a proffesional game?
Shereka Wright: I was excited to have a chance to play against so many great players. It was a treat to play against these terrific players in front of some great fans.
Kerr; South Bend: When is the last time you talked to your college coaches? How did Purdue staff and Big Ten prepare you for the WNBA? Have a great season Shereka. Go Mercury!!!
Shereka Wright: I talked to my coach, actually today. The coaches prepared me for the WNBA, by helping me with my physicality. The Big Ten is physical, which will help me make the adjustment to the WNBA.
Remington, IN: Any comments about playing against Katie Douglas, your ex-teammate?
Shereka Wright: (Laughing) It was great to see her again, I hadn't seen her since my sophomore year in college. It was a cool experience to be on the court with her again.
mb (Mesa): Do you think you can play both SG and SF? Which do you prefer? Keep getting to the freethrow line!
Shereka Wright: (Laughing) It really doesn't matter which spot I play. They are interchangeable. Either way I can still get to the rim, so it doesn't matter.
Dion (Harlem NY): Wassup Shereka, I wanted to know how physical is the proffesional game compared to the college game? (good luck on your season)
Shereka Wright: The game is much more physical. The women here have established their bodies. You really have to be ready for it.
Dawn(Peoria): Shereka, your my girl this season! How is the team chemistry coming along?
Shereka Wright: Team chemistry is great. I can say that compared to any other team in the WNBA, we really hang out together and laugh together and that should translate to a good team out on the court when we play.
Emily C., Mechanicsburg PA: Hey Shereka, how you doing? Coming into the league as a rookie, what were your expectations? and how have they changed? Hope the team has a great season.
Shereka Wright: I think as far as my own expectations, they were to fit in and get used to things. My defensive ability has changed since getting into the league. The coaches have stressed my improving defensively and I am really working hard to get better at that.
Megan Dover: Who was your role model when you were growing up?
Shereka Wright: My parents were my role models. They instilled so much in me. They were so competitive when they played the sport and I have that same competitiveness.
Tom (Phoenix): What have you learned from the veterans on this team, players like Adrian Williams, Nikki McCray and Kayte Christensen?
Shereka Wright: I think they have taught me different things, but mostly to just relax and play. They remind me to play the game and have not and not think so much about doing so many different things. They've been great teammates.
Gary(Manhattan): Sheraka, you are clearly an up tempo, slahing player. Can DT enhance your game?
Shereka Wright: I think she can enhance that and she already has, by pushing the ball up the court. She helps all of us in that regard. It is helping us now, and I think it will continue to help us as the season goes on.
Amy (Chicago): Shereka, Are you looking forward to your return to Conseco on July 3rd? Are your Purdue teammates/coaches gonna come out and see you? Have a great season!
Shereka Wright: I am definitely looking forward to July 3. There are some great fans there, and my coaches and teammates will be there, as well as my family. I'm looking forward to it.
Mike Wilburn Copperas Cove, TX: We in Copperas Cove are certainly proud of you. What has been your greatest difficulty in transition to the pro game? We will be traveling to San Antonio to see that game.
Shereka Wright: My old principal! (Laughing) I think the biggest transition from college to the WNBA is the time. There are more games night in and night out and all the traveling in between. I can't wait to see you at the game!
Valerie (Kingman AZ): I saw you play in the home opener, and you really brought a spark to the Mercury. Coming off the bench, what kind of match-up problems can you create for other teams?
Shereka Wright: I think my height and my ability to post-up is a matchup problem for most players and most teams. Once I can establish my three-point shot, I think I can force teams to defend both of those areas and I can be even more effective.
mb (Scottsdale): Who's a bigger prankster, Diana or Plenette?
Shereka Wright: Diana, by far. (Laughing) She is a jokester. She makes jokes about everyone. She has a bead on that.
East Haven, CT: How's it like playing for a new coach?
Shereka Wright: It has been great. We have learned alot from her. She guides us but really lets up play. Plus learning her accent has been great too (Laughing).
Jennifer (Hartford, Connecticut): Shereka, you are awesome. I just wanted to know how that first season game was for you? How about that 50-footer from Taurasi? Good luck with everything.
Shereka Wright: It's been great. The experience is great, playing in this league I always dreamed of playing in. And, Diana has been hitting those halfcourt shots everyday in practice. It was no surprise at all when she did it in a game. (Laughing)
Regina(Phoenix): What do you think the team needs to work on most at the moment? Keep the hustle!
Shereka Wright: I think right now the thing we need to focus on his rebounding. It's something we really need to grab ahold of, especially with teams in the West, where the players are so big. We are working on that and I think we will improve.
Shereka Wright: Thank you everyone for sending your questions in. I definitely appreciate it. Come to the game and see us on Friday and continue to support the Mercury. And also to my Dad, thanks so much to you, and thanks for the send-in.
