Taurasi Named Player of the Month
Taurasi averaged 18.7 points (fourth in WNBA) and a league-best 6.9 assists in the month of June, helping to lead the Mercury to an 8-2 (.800) record during the month, tied for the best in the WNBA (Atlanta), and propelling the team to the league’s best overall record and a share of the best start in franchise history (11-3).
Taurasi recorded four double-doubles in June (June 10 at Washington, June 15 at Minnesota, June 18 vs. Minnesota, June 20 vs. Tulsa) and shot 47.1 percent from the field (56-of-119) and 94.9 percent from the free-throw line (56-of-59).
In consecutive wins over the Minnesota Lynx, who had previously won 10-straight regular season games against the Mercury, Taurasi scored 21 points and dished 11 assists in the June 15th victory in Minnesapolis, and then posted 22 points and a season-high 10 rebounds on June 20th.
A six-time WNBA All-Star, Taurasi was the leading vote-getter among Western Conference guards in the first returns of 2014 WNBA All-Star Balloting presented by Boost Mobile, announced last week. Fans have just one more day to vote for Taurasi, who has the opportunity to start the game on her home court at US Airways Center on Saturday, July 19 with a tip-off of 12:30 p.m. (Phoenix time).
Fans can vote for up to 10 players per day on WNBA.com, mobile devices, and the WNBA Center Court App presented by Boost Mobile, and will be able to share those All-Star picks with friends on Facebook and followers on Twitter, encouraging others to cast their ballots as well. Fans also will be able to cast votes on Facebook and Twitter, voting for one player per day using the designated hashtag #WNBABallot. Balloting concludes at 9 p.m. Phoenix time tomorrow.
Taurasi and the Mercury will host the Chicago Sky at US Airways Center tomorrow at 7 p.m.
