Mercury Head Coach Corey Gaines

(On the Rebound Disparity)
“It really killed us. It gives them second chance points and free throws and it just slows down the game. That is something we don’t want to happen.”

(On Ketia Swanier’s Play)
“She’s playing well. She gives us great energy. We are going to spread out the minutes for the stretch run and Ketia’s a great point guard. She’s definitely playing well. She does what’s best for the team. I’m looking for her to just play her game. She knows her game better then I do. She knows what she’s got to do.”

Mercury guard Diana Taurasi

(On the Play of Indiana)
“They did what they do. They put it up from the outside and they took it to the basket and got free throws. We played in little spurts and that’s not good enough to beat a team as good as they are. There’s a reason why they are the best in the Eastern Conference. They play solid basketball.”

(On the Rest of the Season)
“We are still very short term. We still have a large margin of improvement to make. We are still pretty far from where we need to be if we want to win a championship.”

Mercury guard Temeka Johnson

(On the Sluggish 1st Quarter)
“I don’t think we were relaxed at all. I think Indiana came out and put pressure on us to slow us down. We kind of fell into it a little bit and then tried to turn it up in the middle of the 1st quarter and the 2nd quarter.”

(On Playing Better as a Team Going Further)
“We have to do some better things. We have to clean up some things on defense. We have to make sure we execute things better on offense and not give a team like Indiana as many extra opportunities as we allowed them to have tonight.”

Fever Head Coach Lin Dunn

“It was a great battle, the thing that really helped us was that we got off to such a great start, we talked about the fact that it was going to be 10:00pm our time, and I felt that 10:00pm on a Saturday night was a time that our players energy was going to be at a high level. So we weren’t too worried about the time change but I thought the start we had really set the tone for the game. Our defense was tough; I thought we made Taurasi and Pondexter work for their points, which is what we wanted to do.”

(On DeWanna Bonner’s play so far this season)
“She’s having a tremendous season, everybody has to realize that she has a deadly up and under if she doesn’t get what she wants going that way she’s coming back the other way. Her speed, her quickness, I think she’s going to be a player to deal with in this league for a long time.”

Fever forward Katie Douglas

(On the great start they got off to in the 1st quarter)
“We’re not a team that frequently gets off to great starts, but we knew the importance of this road trip and this game and coming into their house with a great crowd. We know they are an energy fast paced team so for us to get off to a fast start was extremely crucial, and we were able to get out ahead and set the tone early.”

(On if they were worried about running out of gas against a run team)
“I don’t think so, coach has done a great job of keeping the minutes balanced, and giving us rests when we need them. Each individual is self-less enough to say, ‘hey take me out if they’re tired’ so I think it’s very big for our team to have self-less players, and if you can’t get the job done, know that someone else is going to come in and contribute.”

Fever center Jessica Moore

(On the win and the fast start)
“I think it all starts before the game, in preparation, and in practice. We had two solid good days of practice where we were able to concentrate on Phoenix, and that goes out to our coaches preparing us for this game, so when we came in we felt like we knew what we were doing and everything fell into place.”

(On if good defense always beats good offense)
“It does for us, we could have the worst offense ever, but our defense is something that we know we can rely on and we take a lot of pride in that.”
