Mercury Adds to Training Camp Roster
A standout at the University of Arizona from 2007-11, Ibekwe was a three-time All-Pac 10 First Team selection and twice named Pac 10 Defensive Player of the Year (2010, 2011). As a senior, the 6-2 forward averaged 16.1 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. She was selected by Seattle in the second round (24th overall) of the 2011 WNBA Draft and appeared in three games for the Storm. On Feb. 10, 2012, Ibekwe signed a free agent training camp contract with the San Antonio Silver Stars, but was waived prior to the beginning of the season.
A Kansas State University alum, Childs earned All-Big 12 First Team honors in 2012 after averaging a team-high 14.5 points per game as a senior, the sixth-highest scoring mark in the league that season. Childs finished her collegiate career with 1,237 career points, ranked 18th in school history.
Both forwards will appear in training camp along with the top overall pick from this April’s WNBA Draft, in which the Mercury owns the No. 1 selection. The Draft will be held on April 15 in Bristol, Conn., and will be broadcast in primetime on ESPN2.
The top pick in the most anticipated draft in league history will make her WNBA debut on May 27 when the Mercury hosts the Chicago Sky, owner of the second overall pick.
