The Phoenix Mercury and Carl Hayden High School girls’ basketball team will donate nearly 500 canned food items to Cedar Sanctuary in Chandler, Ariz. on Wednesday, January 27 at 4 p.m. to help with the relief efforts in Haiti.

Cedar Sanctuary is an assisted living facility whose founder, Christine Ellis, is a native of Haiti. Ellis and the team at Cedar Sanctuary are in the process of sending food, water, personal care items, blankets and more to her fellow Haitians and organizations aiding the people in Haiti.

“The devastation Haiti is experiencing is something no one can turn their back to,” said Jay Parry, President and COO of the Phoenix Mercury. “The Mercury is committed to using its good fortune to help those in immediate need. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the people in Haiti as they recover from this tragic earthquake.”

The Mercury and Carl Hayden collected the canned food through donation sites at Carl Hayden basketball games, Mercury season ticket holder events and with the help of employees and staff.
