Mercury re-sign Jen Derevjanik, Teana McKiver
PHOENIX – The 2007 WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury has re-signed guard Jen Derevjanik and center Teana McKiver to one-year contracts, the club announced today.
“Jen is really important to our backcourt and its stability, and we’re really thrilled to keep her in Phoenix” said Mercury General Manager Ann Meyers Drysdale. “She’s such a savvy player, and her two years of experience in our system is a great asset to the team. Two years ago when Kelly Miller went down with an injury, she really stepped up in eight starts for us (her first eight games with the club).”
Derevjanik, a four-year WNBA veteran, originally signed with Phoenix on June 1, 2006 and played in the remaining 31 games. In two seasons in Phoenix, the 5-10, 140-pound George Mason product has averaged 2.4 points and 1.7 assists per game.
Teana McKiver, a three-year WNBA veteran, originally signed with the Mercury on July 5, 2007. The 6-3, 211-pound McKiver appeared in two games for the Mercury last season. She owns career averages of 3.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in 42 games.
“We are excited about Teana’s return this year,” said Drysdale. "She has a great understanding of how our system works and we know that she is going to come back with a lot of enthusiasm. She brings a true veteran knowledge to a team that looks to defend its title.”
