Frank (Phoenix): Do you think the Mercur will select Taurasi? and if so how will she affect the team?
Anna DeForge: Whew. I don't know what the Mercury are going to do, that is the GM and the coaches responsibility. I think that if we do get her she will be a big help offensively and defensively. Any No. 1 pick in the draft has name recognition, so they will be a huge help on and off the court.
Risa(Phx): Hey Anna! What are the major differences between the WNBA and the NWBL?
Anna DeForge: Let's see. I've been in the NWBL for three years now and the talent level has moved up every year. In the WNBA, though, you are going up against the best of the best every night. Other than that, it's pretty much the same.
jenny : i read on the mercury website that you were diagnosed as hypoglycemic. what changes did you have to make to your lifestyle so that you could continue to play ball? Go Mercury!
Anna DeForge: I just had to change my diet. I had to eat more. There were no drastic changes, I just had to be more mindful of my diet.
David (Farmington): Anna, it has been a pleasure watching you up here with the NWBL Dallas Fury. Your shot is fantastic, and I love to point out the form to my 9 year old daughter. Any suggestions for her to learn to shoot like that?
Anna DeForge: Thank you very much. I think just stick to basics of shooting form. I always try to use my legs in my shot, my release point is high, and I follow through. Then, of course, repetition is key.
Trish ( Lincoln): What was your favorite part of being a Husker and how does it play a part of your WNBA career.
Anna DeForge: Probably my favorite part of being a Husker was the friendships I made with my coaches and teammates. That goes for the WNBA too, it's the people around you who make your experiences enjoyable.
CJ from Sacramento: Who are your top picks for the women's tournament?
Anna DeForge: Obviously Duke and UConn and then, I'm thinking Texas from the Big 12.
Gary (Wis): OK otugh question... Brett Farve or Bart Starr?
Anna DeForge: That is tough, but I'm gonna have to go with Brett Favre. I know Starr was great, but I never got to see him live, and I've seen lots of Favre, so he's my pick.
Linda (Texas): What's your favorite Packer memory?
Anna DeForge: The Super Bowl, the first one that Favre won, and it was the first one that I saw them win, also.
Diane (Racine WI): Hi fellow cheesehead, just wonder how often you get back home to the great northwoods? Good luck this season, it should be a good one
Anna DeForge: Not as much as I would like to. My family still lives in Wisconsin, and I'd love to see more of them, but I only get back about two or three times a year. Thanks for wishing me good luck this season.
nick (chandler): is there an NBA player that you workout with or that you model your game after? i think you're a pure shooter and i can't wait to see you play this summer with diana taurasi.
Anna DeForge: Growing up I watched alot of Michael Jordan. His competitiveness, his passion were terrific. Brett Favre is also a great competitor, even though it's another sport. I don't play like Jordan of course, but his competitive nature is something I think affected me. I pick up things that maybe aren't basketball related...like his jumper...but I pick up other things...like his will, his determination, things that can't be taught.
Kelly (Arizona): What would you rather do -- hit a trey, drive for a pretty layup or block a shot
Anna DeForge: Hit the three. Definitely. That's a back-breaker.
Denise (Mesa): What team in the WNBA do you look forward to playing each summer? I think the Mercury has a good rivalry with Houston and Los Angeles. Good luck this summer.
Anna DeForge: I don't know that I have a favorite team to play against. I just like to compete against these great players every game. There isn't a specific team.
Krista (Arizona): How is it working with Dion SanderS?
Anna DeForge: Ha-ha (Laughing) It's a trip. He is working along with Nancy Lieberman and Candy Harvey with the Dallas Fury. He brings his competition and we practice against him and his cornerback friends from the NFL. It's interesting and very helpful.
Angie : Anna - What type of a workout routine do you have and what suggestions would you give to a highshool freshman who is thinking of playing the WNBA one day? Thanks and good luck this summer!
Anna DeForge: I would say a basic workout in the offseason, is I constantly lift weights, and I always practice on the court. One thing you need on the professional level is to be fundamentally sound. Mentally, you need to be very confident too. Don't let people tell you what you can and can't do.
Contoocook: With yourself, Penny Taylor and possible pick Diana Taurasi what type of offense do you think will be played?
Anna DeForge: Hopefully one where we can all shoot alot. (Laughing). Penny gives us offensive punch, and whoever we get in the Draft will help. I think we will run an up-tempo offense and spread the ball around.
tersh(queen creek): What's life after basketball for you? Any chance you might consider coaching?
Anna DeForge: I think there is a chance I will consider coaching. I don't know. I want to stay around the sport, in some fashion. It could be coaching, broadcasting, whatever. I want to stay in an athletic atmosphere.
Anna DeForge: Thanks for all the support. I appreciate everybody supporting the WNBA and the Phoenix Mercury.
