Seimone Augustus and Sparta&K begin the EuroLeague Final Eight on Monday, Mar. 18 in Ekaterinburg, Russia. In the group stage, Sparta&K will face off with Famila Schio, Bourges and Fenerbahce over three consecutive days (Mar. 18-20). The semifinals will begin on Mar. 22, with the title game taking place on Sunday, Mar. 24. In Russian Premier League play, Sparta&K remained tied for second place (11-4) by routing Spartak Noginsk 81-40 on Wednesday. Augustus was a coach’s decision not to play.
Rebekkah Brunson and USK Praha continued to roll in Czech League play on Saturday (Mar. 2), dominating Hradec Králové, 103-60, in Round 2 of the Second Stage of ZBL play. Brunson finished the game with 12 points, six rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists in 16 minutes. This weekend, USK will take part in the annual Czech Cup tournament.
Amber Harris and Bichumi closed out the first round of the South Korean playoffs with a sweep of KB Stars over the weekend. Harris scored 34 points in each game and grabbed 15 and 16 rebounds respectively to lead Bichumi to the semifinals, where they'll square off with S-Birds (24-11) beginning on Friday (Mar. 8). For the regular season, Harris led the WKBL in scoring (20.0 ppg) and blocked shots (1.92 bpg) while ranking second in rebounds (11.2 rpg) and steals (1.68 spg).
In Australia, Jess Adair and Townsville upset Monica Wright and Dandenong in the WNBL's Preliminary Final last weekend, outpacing the Rangers in the fourth quarter 26-12 en route to a 78-64 win. Adair scored seven points (all in the fourth quarter) and grabbed 12 rebounds in the victory, while Wright countered with six points, six rebounds and five steals for Dandenong. Townsville will play the Bendigo Spirit in the Grand Final on Sunday (Mar. 10), the first championship game appearance for both franchises.
