Lynx Activate Abrosimova

Team Releases Slaughter, Places Van Gorp on the IL
June 7, 2004 — The Lynx today activated forward Svetlana Abrosimova from the Suspended List and released forward Gwen Slaughter, who was on the team's Injured List with a stress fracture in her left foot. The team also placed center Michele Van Gorp on the IL with a stress reaction to the navicular bone in her left foot.

Abrosimova, 23, was the seventh overall selection by Minnesota in the 2001 WNBA Draft and missed the team's 2004 training camp due to overseas commitments. In three seasons with the Lynx, Abrosimova has averaged 11.7 ppg and 5.6 rpg in 83 contests. In 2003, the 6-2 forward finished third on the team in scoring (10.6 ppg) and second in rebounding (4.7 rpg), and ranked 12th in the WNBA in steals (1.47 spg) as well as 20th in assists (a career-high 2.7 apg).

Slaughter was signed by Minnesota as a free agent on April 26, 2004 and moved to the team's Injured List on May 28. Averaging 3.0 mpg in two 2004 regular-season contests, Slaughter totaled two points, one rebound and one block.

In five 2004 regular-season games, Van Gorp posted averages of 3.8 ppg, 2.2 rpg and 9.6 mpg. Per league rules, she must remain on the Injured List a minimum three games.
