Lynx Release Sonia Chase and Gwen Slaughter


Slaughter recorded six points and 11 rebounds in three preseason games.

May 20, 2003 — The Lynx today announced the team has released guard Sonia Chase and forward Gwen Slaughter. Minnesota's training camp roster currently stands at 12. The Lynx' 11-player active roster must be finalized by 2:00 p.m. CDT tomorrow. The team may also have two players on the Injured List.

Chase, who signed with Minnesota as a free agent on April 30, appeared in all three preseason games and finished with nine points, five rebounds and four assists in 43 minutes. Previously, Chase played two WNBA seasons (1998, 1999) with the Charlotte Sting. The 5-9 guard appeared in 36 games for the Sting and finished with totals of 45 points, 19 rebounds and 18 assists.

Slaughter was signed by Minnesota as a free agent on May 1. The 6-3 forward totaled six points and 11 rebounds and 34 minutes in three preseason contests. Slaughter finished her collegiate career as the second all-time leading rebounder (962) in Tulane history. As a senior in 2002-03, she earned All-Conference USA Second Team honors with 8.8 ppg and 9.2 rpg.

The Lynx open their fifth WNBA regular season on Saturday against the Sacramento Monarchs at 7:00 p.m. at Target Center.
