Lynx Acquire Shaunzinski Gortman

April 19, 2002 — The Minnesota Lynx today announced that the team traded forwards Erin Buescher and Maylana Martin to the Charlotte Sting for guard Shaunzinski Gortman, the ninth pick in the 2002 WNBA Draft.

Gortman, a 6-1 guard from the University of South Carolina, averaged 15.0 ppg, 6.2 rpg and 3.0 apg in 29 games as a senior. The 21-year-old earned an All-SEC First Team selection in 2002 and received an AP All-America honorable mention. She averaged 12.9 ppg, 5.5 rpg and 3.0 apg during her four-year collegiate career.

Buescher, a 6-2 forward from The Master's College, was drafted by the Lynx in the second round (23rd overall) of the 2001 WNBA Draft. In 2001, Buescher averaged 5.7 ppg and 3.7 rpg. She started 19 of 32 games for the Lynx as a rookie.

Martin, a 6-2 forward, averaged 3.7 ppg and 2.5 rpg in 61 career games with the Lynx. Minnesota drafted the former UCLA Bruin in the first round (10th overall) in the 2000 WNBA Draft.
