Hey Lynx Fans! Welcome back for the second entry of The Reeve Report. Since the first entry, the Lynx have had great news to celebrate. On November 4th, 2010, in New York, the WNBA held the Draft Lottery and the Minnesota Lynx landed the top pick in the 2011 Collegiate Draft! Additionally, by virtue of last year’s trade with the Connecticut Sun, the Lynx hold the fourth overall pick. What a great day it was for the franchise and Lynx fans!!

As many of you know, the Lynx have held the #1 overall pick a few times in past years. So for some the excitement is a bit tempered. For me, being a part of the draft lottery was unfamiliar territory, so my excitement was two-part. One, we won the lottery – the process in itself was very exciting! Two, and here’s the part that even the tempered fans can’t deny, we won the lottery in a year where there may be a chance to select one of the best college players of all-time.

So who are the top college prospects? Go to the Draft Prospects page for an early season look at the names. In viewing this list, along with inclusion of 6’8 international prospect, Liz Cambage, you’ll notice that the 2011 Collegiate Draft is unique in its depth of players with size. For the first time since the 2003 draft where LaToya Thomas, Chantelle Anderson, Cheryl Ford, and Plenette Pierson were selected 1-4, there is the possibility of 5 of the top 6 picks being frontline players. It’s a quality draft for those of us who are selecting in the top half of the draft as each year the front line is an area of need for most WNBA teams.

Over the next few months, our staff will be on the road evaluating many of these prospects to determine which ones will best fit our roster. As our fans know, we already have a quality group of players. As a result, we have the luxury of flexibility in shaping our roster and addressing our needs to put the best possible product on the court in 2011. It’s an exciting time to be a Lynx fan, but, as Glen Taylor would say, ‘no promises, just results’. I feel ya Mr. Taylor. :)

As for other happenings, our players are enjoying success in their overseas ventures. Congrats to Monica Wright on being named Euroleague Player of the Week! And shout out to runner up Rebekkah Brunson who’s doing work with her undefeated Ros Casares team. Check out the overseas update for other Lynx players here.

Finally, thanks to the many Lynx fans that gathered at Kieran’s Irish Pub for the viewing party. I enjoyed seeing everyone.

That’s all for now. Until next time...
