Smith Breaks All-Time Scoring Record

July 1, 2002 — Lynx forward Katie Smith scored a season-high 28 points and passed Utah Starzz forward Natalie Williams as the all-time leading scorer in U.S. women's professional basketball history (American Basketball League and Women's National Basketball Association) with 3,408 points in tonight's 85-80 overtime win against the Detroit Shock.

Smith netted 1,433 points in 86 games in the ABL for the Columbus Quest. She has tallied 1,975 points in 107 games with the Lynx, 10th all-time in WNBA history. Smith entered the 2002 campaign 95 points behind Williams for the all-time professional scoring record.

Both players are back in action on Wednesday as the Starzz host the Houston Comets, and the Lynx host the Washington Mystics at 7:00 p.m. at Target Center.
