Katie Smith Injury Update

July 26, 2004 — Lynx guard Katie Smith has been diagnosed by team doctors with a contusion to the lateral compartment in her right knee. Doctors expect Smith to be out two to three weeks, making her available to compete with the U.S. Women's Basketball Team in the 2004 Olympics in Greece. Smith suffered the injury with 11:09 left to go in the Lynx' contest vs. the Mystics at the MCI Center in Washington on Friday.

Smith, a 5-11 guard, moved into third place on the WNBA's all-time scoring chart after scoring 27 points in Minnesota's 68-52 win at Connecticut on Thursday night. A four-time All Star and four-time All-WNBA performer, Smith is averaging 18.8 ppg (third in the WNBA), 3.7 rpg, 2.3 apg and 34.8 mpg this season.
