Even after Tuesday’s 80-62 win over the New York Liberty, coach Cheryl Reeve wasn’t satisfied.

“We certainly had some good moments, but we would like to be talking about a win and saying we have to get better rather than losing the game and saying we have to get better,” said Reeve. “We still have a long way to go.”

Her hunger for improvement seemed to be contagious Tuesday, as the Lynx took control of what was a tie game midway through the second quarter, going on a 17-4 run that lasted into the third. Lynx guard Seimone Augustus finished with a game-high 22 points, and Taj McWilliams-Franklin recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lynx are back at Target Center tonight to take on the Sparks in their third game of the regular season at 7 p.m.

The Sparks also played Tuesday, defeating the Seattle Storm 74-61. This was already their third meeting with Seattle in 2012, losing a preseason game to the Storm and coming back to defeat them in their first two games of the regular season, including the Tuesday victory.

Last time out

After dropping the 2011 season opener to the Sparks, the Lynx rallied to take the next four games of the series, finishing with a 4-1 record against L.A. In their final matchup of the season on August 20, an 87-68 Lynx victory, Augustus scored 17 points and Candice Wiggins had 13. Top performers for the Sparks included forwards DeLisha Milton and Tina Thompson.

Key matchup: Moore vs. Parker

Lynx forward Maya Moore, 2011’s Rookie of the Year, has started 2012 with a pair of impressive scoring performances, with 13 points against Phoenix in the season opener Sunday and 15 on 6-of-11 shooting against the Liberty in Tuesday’s contest.

Sparks forward Candace Parker finished last season with 16 double-digit scoring efforts and has kicked off this season with two in as many games. Scoring 11 points on May 18 and 21 points on May 22 in the Sparks’ pair of wins over the Storm, Parker is establishing herself as a key offensive threat for Los Angeles again this year.

Injury report

Seimone Augustus was in the starting lineup on Tuesday despite leaving Sunday’s game against the Mercury with a rib injury.

Amber Harris remains sidelined by an ankle sprain suffered in their first preseason game May 10.
