Sam Eclipses 2,000 Career WNBA Points

Lynx Forward Becomes the 25th Player to Achieve Milestone
Aug. 14, 2003 — Lynx forward Sheri Sam reached the 2,000-point plateau in Minnesota's 87-83 loss against Los Angeles on Thursday. Sam tallied 13 points, giving her 2,002 in her five-year WNBA career. Sam, the 25th player in WNBA history to register 2,000+ points, achieved the milestone with a three-pointer with 6:30 remaining in the first half.

Sam, who is averaging 11.2 ppg through 30 contests in 2003, joined the Lynx in the offseason as the second overall pick in the 2003 WNBA Dispersal Draft. Prior to joining the Lynx, she spent three seasons with the Miami Sol (2000, 2001, 2002) and one season with the Orlando Miracle (1999). She averaged a WNBA career-best 14.5 ppg last season with the Sol.

Before joining the WNBA, Sam played two-plus seasons with the San Jose Lasers of the American Basketball League (1996-97 through 1998-99), and registered 1,388 points. Sam is the fifth all-time leading scorer in the history of U.S. women's professional basketball (WNBA/ABL) with 3,390 points.
