Nicole’s Notes

What did you do for your birthday (March 13)?
I had lunch and dinner with friends and then went to the Timberwolves game. I also talked to a lot of people on the phone. I had a good time.
How was your time overseas?
It was a lot of fun. I had a great time. I had good teammates and was in a great city. We didn't make it as far as we would have liked to in the Euro League, but we still had a good time and overall our team did pretty well.
It was a university city so lots of Americans were there. I love Spanish food and I really liked my teammates, so I spent time with them. There's a lot to do there and we were just two hours from Madrid. We visited a lot of cities and it was sunny and warm.
Were you the only American on the team?
We had another American, Nicole Powell, who plays with Sacramento. A girl from Latvia and another girl from Serbia and the rest were Spanish. Most of them spoke English so we didn't have the language barrier problem. My coach didn't speak English, so we had a translator. That was a little difficult. Most of the girls spoke English and it definitely helped on the court.
What are your impressions of the Lynx new coaching staff?
I think I'm really going to enjoy playing for them. They put together a coaching staff that's going to be very energetic and ready to make us work hard and succeed. Coach Z (Don Zierden) knows so much about the game and is so energetic and ready to get going. Coach T (Teresa Edwards), who I loved playing with as a teammate, knows so much at the point guard position and throughout the game. Coach Ed (Prohofsky) and CJ (Carolyn Jenkins) are also great. It's a great staff that I think will help us reach our maximum potential.
What are your goals for the upcoming season?
As a team, first and foremost, we want to be competitive. We want to get into playoff contention. Personally, I have a lot of goals and I definitely want to have a better year than last year. I want to be able to do the things I'm capable of doing to help my team win.
Has the staff mentioned anything about a style of play?
I think we're going to try to be more of an up-tempo team. We're going to make sure that we play better defense than last year. We definitely don't want to lead the league in points scored upon us. We're going to be a good defensive team, we're going to push the ball and I think we have the personnel that can do that. I think there are a couple aspects here and there that we're going to try to switch up.
What are you looking forward to as training camp approaches?
I'm looking forward to all of my teammates coming back. I've tried to stay in touch with them. I'm excited to see them again. We always have good times - with Tamika (Williams) and all of them making me laugh. I'm looking forward to getting on the court and playing some games. Everyone's probably had a long offseason and we're getting ready to be back into that competitive mode.
What aren't you looking forward to at training camp?
What I'm not looking forward to? I think you should ask again after the first few days of Coach Z's training camp.
